111-2 Lunch with Advisor

       This semester, Dr. Sherry decided to hold a feast with her class at my parents’ restaurant. When Dr. Sherry contacted my parents, they immediately. We decided to design a special combo for them.

       In the beginning, Dr. Sherry and us discussed about what cuisine should include in the combo. In the end, we decided to serve a main dish, a cup of corn soup, a plate of fruit, and a glass of drink. The main dishes include fried pork chop donburi, squid curry rice, seafood spaghetti, peeled shrimp spaghetti, donburi (with fried squid and

shrimp), and vegetarian hotpot. After designing the combo, Dr. Sherry made a survey to ask weather they want to come to the feast or not. In the end, there are 12 people could attend the feast.

       On the feast day, my parents and I woke up early in order to prepare food. In the morning, we check all the orders. Then, my mother started to cut watermelon and cucumis melo into pieces. My father was preparing tempura and seafood. I was responsible for the drinks, soup, and serving foods for our guest. After the long-time preparation, Dr. Sherry and her class came to our restaurant.

        After our guest came to our restaurant, I started to serve drinks and food to them. In the beginning, I gave them black tea and green tea. Then, I started to serve the main dish to them. When they saw our cuisine, all of the students felt shocked because the quantity of the meal was quite large. Interestingly, when I served cups of corn soup, some of them told me that they were already too full. Then, after I served them fruit platter, almost all of them finish all the food on the plate.

       After the meal, those students and Dr. Sherry started to discuss about the school life of the students. I was listening to their sharing. During their sharing time, those students mentioned how they study in graduate school and advice for other students. I think what they shared were useful. Those participants may be inspired after the feast.

       To me, this feast is a special activity. In the past, some professors held feast in our restaurant, but we never design special combo like this time. Thus, the experience is really fresh to me. If some professors want to hold a feast with students, we are willing to help.
